Le CLos Rabelais

If we're ever able to return to the Loire, our first stop and base camp will once again be the Clos Rabelais, a century-old villa in Langeais. Shaun and Patrick were impeccable hosts who provided us with magnificent home-cooked meals and unbridled enthusiasm for the region's bounteous offerings. Most impressive (and appreciated!), was their enthusiasm and warm interaction with our very active toddler. During our five-day stay, we saw half a dozen chateux within 30 minutes from their home, many across the river but easy to reach because of the century-old bridge in Langeais. We slept in absolute bliss on our well-appointed bed and delighted in the warm company of our hosts who helped us maximize our enjoyment in the Loire with great suggestions and even a wine-accompanied picnic for a 16 km bike trip we planned (with their help) at the last minute. We were also lucky to enjoy two al fresco dinners at Rabelais, courtesy of maitres Shaun et Patrick. First-rate pasta bolognese and beef bourginon preceeded by cheese, pate et crudites were matched with fascinating encounters with fellow guests, including a charming French couple with a matching pair of collapsing bicycles who had pedaled in that day from Tours! For a relaxing, fun and scenic vacation in the French countryside, we most heartily recommend Clos Rabelais.
C'etait magnifique!
